Do you know if this works on 2017 MacBook Pro 13 with Touch Bar model?I bought this from someone and at that time there was no firmware password set I guess since I installed OS from Recovery mode. but then when I erased MacBook it asked me to set a passcode which I did but I forgot the passcode I had set and now when I start it in recovery mode it is asking me for Firmware password.
Hi, I followed the instructions to reset the firmware password on my 2011 imac. My huband set the firmware password the night before he walked out 9 months ago. I have no experience at all working on computers. I followed each step exactly & now I am happily using the Mac again. Thank you!
Crack Firmware Password Mac
I just bought this 2011 late Macbook Pro. I first got the ? on a blinking folder. Then did the option and and then the padlock with a space for firmware password appeared. I have tried everything. I tried this twice, but still comes up as locked no matter what I do.
If you cannot remember the firmware password for your Mac, schedule a service appointment with either an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, please make a reservation at the Genius Bar using (available in some countries only).
hey rob, all you need is just :1-remove a stick of ram2-remove battery3-stick the ram back in4-battery back in5-boot back up by: turned on your Mac computer then: holding cmd+alt+p+r for three times, let boot up.oups firmware password deleted :Dhere we go salem alikoum greeting from Algerian muslim ;)
Seems to have worked on a Black 2007 MacBook or at least I can get to the Options screen now to select a startup disk. I think the HD crapped out and the firmware password is unknown on this teachers MacBook, before my time and not documented anywhere. Now if only I can get it to boot off disk or external drive to backup her files. She may have to learn another lesson! They never learn!
Sorry on modern macs there is not a way around the Firmware password. Either remember the password or take it to an Apple retail store / Apple Authorized Service Provider with a Proof of Purchase. As long as you have the POP they can bypass the lock.
this works when carried out exactly as stated. the last steps of putting back the RAM module are not even necessary:the firmware-password is stored based on a combination of hardware. at the mac-repair-lab i work in, altering any kind of hardware, then resetting PRAM (3 times the chime=important) works any time! removing RAM is the easiest way:remove one module, boot back up holding cmd-alt-p-r for three chimes, let boot up:firmware password deleted.
The precise process varies greatly between each Mac, but if a user is not comfortable with that sort of thing in general no amount of photos or pictures will do the job. This is the only way to bypass a firmware password outside of entering the password itself. Perhaps Apple has another solution themselves for Macs that are in their support or genius bar.
A Macbook Air, which has non-removable RAM, might require you to connect an external optical drive, and start up from an OS X installer DVD or a USB flash drive, and run its copy of the Firmware Password Utility to turn off the password option.
With filevault, they cannot view your files after accessing the drive. They can erase or reinstall. However macs 2010 and newer will not allow you to reset the firmware password by removing ram etc.
I think you may be over complicating the procedure, I believe all you need to do is remove the ram and then put it back in to get around the firmware password but I could be wrong. Nice trick either way!
2017 Imac pro, was my mothers that passed away. Installed high sierra next morning turned on for it to be stuck on apple loading bar tried to reset in recovery mode only keyboard command that works is option. It takes me to filmware password. I enter password and it freezes for a second then the password disappears and computer does nothing, can you help me please? its a a1419 model pro 570
Contact Apple for assistance with removing an iMac Pro firmware password, you will need proof of purchase, proof of ownership, any documents that demonstrate the computer is now yours etc. Good luck. It might even be under warranty still.
Do note that a firmware password is not the same as an administrator password or the general computer password used to login to a Mac. The firmware password appears immediately upon boot and is a gray locked icon, looking like this:
In most cases, you will need to provide proof of ownership of the Mac which has a locked firmware password in order for them to unlock the computer in question. There may be exceptions for a variety of unusual circumstances, discuss those with them if necessary.
I am in much the same situation as I forgot my find my passcode and now if I boot up with command or it goes straight to the firmware password lock screen. I am a cancer patient that has been prescribed pain drugs for a considerable amount of time so my memory is not what it used to be. If any of you start a lawsuit please, please contact me.
Thanks for the tricks.A MAJOR detail to be known : whatever your region/country is, the MacBook Pro 2018 boots with a keyboard in QWERTY mapping. So another trick is : translate your password in qwerty mode!
Hi, the firmware password was activated without me knowing it at all. Strange? I have got to visit Apple in central London to fix it and still under warranty. thanks for your help, interesting subject. TM
While setting up he new machine, went into find my device and selected the old machine and selected erase. It asked me to enter my iCloud password, which I did. Then it asked me to enter a six digit password to stop the erase on the old machine if I wanted to. I entered a six digit number (thankfully easy to remember, 123456) and was expecting the old machine to format itself any moment as both were powered on and connected to the internet. Nothing happened for a while. I out the old machine away for a few hours and played around on the new machine
A few hours later I thought I would do the Cmd-R on the old machine to ensure I had a clean OS on it and all of my data was gone. I did the install OS command and it downloaded the OS from the internet and rebooted. Then it presented me with the firmware lock, which I had never set. I entered the admin password I had used. No luck. I entered my iCloud password. No luck. Then I thought about it and entered 123456. It unlocked the firmware password. Phwew.
Boot up your Apple computer while holding the option key. You will get the screen wanting the firmware passcode. Press Shift + Control + Command +Option + S at this screen. You will get a one time hash code. Call 1-800-275-2273 and tell them you have the has code and they will email You a file to put on a FAT formatted flash drive. Turn you computer off boot with the flash drive in while holding the option key and that should do it. Apple may require proof of purchase to do this.
Got a all in one apple computer . I got it at Best Buy 5 years ago.I turn it on and I am getting a flashing ? in side a file folder. So I shut it down and tried the command+R button now I am getting a lock symbol and what it looks like a place to put in a password. I never set up a password of any kind on this computer. And I have not got the receipt any more.If any one can help please e-mail me
P.S. got to this discussion from website where I was checking serial number on Macbook Pro on eBay. Folks at the website sell a little USB device with LED display that they say reveals the firmware password on boot. Device costs a LOT.
Users can unlock the firmware password as described above, but Apple wants the original receipt because they want proof of ownership, they are not going to unlock the firmware password for a stolen Mac, for example.
Yesterday i saw a movie in my macbook. Today I cant login my macbook.. It doesnt accept actual password+masterpassword. I tried with Apple ID password. Anything didnt work. What can i do..? I donot know about anything of this setteings. I am new to OS system.
Please read the article to understand this is not a risk, to reset the firmware password you need proof of ownership provided to Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. A criminal would not have that documentation (like a receipt in your name and the computer registered in your name, for example).
